One of the best things you can do in Venice is to get lost. Now that doesn’t mean getting lost trying to find your accommodation after you just arrived on a late flight. That will probably happen too, but what I mean is – explore the streets and the little alleyways. Wander off and explore what Venice has to offer. You’ll likely see and experience things that you would otherwise miss completely. Don’t worry, you won’t go hungry as there’s plenty of nice, moderately priced Italian restaurants and gelato shops. They just happen to be off the beaten track a little.
On my adventures through Venice, I saw a group making a delivery by boat, a man fishing, someone putting their washing out on the line… I think the best thing about travelling is seeing locals getting on with their day-to-day lives, because it’s very likely that they live in a very different way to you. That’s what makes travelling such a rich, enjoyable experience.
Part 2 of my adventures in Venice will be posted soon, so look out for it!
Until next time, arrivederci!
